The Zebra WS50 is a compact, all-in-one wearable Android computer with an integrated 2D barcode scanner. It's designed for hands-free operations in environments like warehousing, manufacturing, retail, and logistics.

Unlike typical setups that require a separate scanner and host device, the WS50 combines everything into one lightweight unit.

Key Features

All-in-One Wearable Computer

  • Runs Android 11 AOSP.

  • Built-in processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100, 2.0 GHz).

  • 1 GB RAM / 8 GB Flash storage.

  • 2-inch AMOLED touchscreen (460×460 resolution).

  • Rugged Gorilla Glass display.

Form Factor Options

  • Two-finger ring scanner (with trigger and 2D imager).

  • Back-of-hand mount (with imager and larger battery).

  • Wrist-mounted version (uses camera instead of 2D imager).

Barcode Scanning

  • Uses Zebra SE4770 2D imager in ring/back-of-hand configurations.

  • Reads 1D and 2D barcodes, even damaged or poorly printed ones.

  • Wrist version uses a 13MP camera for scanning and image capture.

  • Optional proximity sensor allows automatic scanning without pressing a trigger.

Battery & Power

  • Hot-swappable batteries:

    • 800 mAh (wrist version).

    • 1300 mAh (ring/back-of-hand versions).

  • Batteries can be replaced without rebooting the device.

  • Designed for full-shift use.

Ruggedness

  • IP65-rated (dust-tight, water-resistant).

  • Drop-tested: up to 1.8 meters (6 feet).

  • Tumble-tested: 2,000 tumbles (per MIL-STD 810G).

  • Designed for industrial environments.

Connectivity

  • Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac).

  • Bluetooth 4.2 with BLE and NFC pairing.

  • USB 2.0 for charging and data transfer.

Audio & Interaction

  • Built-in microphone and speaker.

  • Supports push-to-talk (PTT) and voice communication.

  • Programmable buttons for scanning, voice, or app control.

Additional Capabilities

  • Built-in motion sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope).

  • Ambient light sensor adjusts display brightness.

  • Optional RFID model supports UHF tag reading up to 1.5 meters.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Truly self-contained wearable—no external host needed.

  • Lightweight and ergonomic.

  • Excellent for scan-heavy, hands-free tasks.

  • Modular form factors fit different workflows.

Cons:

  • Small screen can be hard to read for some users.

  • Limited memory not ideal for heavy multitasking.

  • Camera-based scanning (wrist model) can be slower than 2D imagers.

Ideal Use Cases

  • Order picking and inventory in warehouses.

  • Line-side operations in manufacturing.

  • Mobile workflows in retail stockrooms.

  • Situations requiring voice and scan integration.
